For many justice-involved individuals, economic mobility is constrained long before they ever enter a courtroom—and further limited by system involvement. Criminal records can restrict access to employment, professional licensing, and career advancement, while gaps in education, work history, and credentials narrow job options even further. 

Even when employment is available, many people face structural barriers to sustaining it. Jobs that require rigid schedules, transportation, or upfront costs are often out of reach for individuals navigating housing instability, caregiving responsibilities, or limited access to reliable transit. At the same time, justice involvement frequently disrupts education and workforce pathways, making it harder to access higher-paying, growth-oriented opportunities. 

Compounding these challenges is a lack of social capital. Many justice-involved individuals have limited access to professional networks, mentorship, and informal pathways to employment—resources that are critical for job placement, advancement, and long-term economic stability. Without intentional support to build skills, connections, and opportunity, justice involvement can lock people into cycles of low-wage work, unemployment, and system reentry. 

Enhancing economic mobility is not just about employment—it is about creating pathways to stability, dignity, and independence that reduce justice system involvement and strengthen communities. 

We work with justice agencies, workforce partners, employers, and community organizations to strengthen economic mobility for people impacted by the justice system. Our approach focuses on identifying and removing the structural barriers that limit access to employment, advancement, and long-term financial stability. 

In practice, we help partners design and implement strategies that expand access to education, training, and employment opportunities aligned with real-world constraints. This includes supporting flexible workforce models, reducing exclusionary policies tied to criminal records, and aligning justice processes with employment and credentialing pathways so system involvement does not derail economic progress. 

We also focus on building the skills and social capital necessary for long-term success. Through data-informed planning and community collaboration, we help create opportunities for mentorship, career navigation, and network-building, recognizing that economic mobility depends not only on jobs, but on access to relationships, resources, and pathways for growth. 

Across this work, our goal is to ensure that justice involvement does not define a person’s economic future, and that systems are designed to support stability, opportunity, and upward mobility.
